Following the death of Matt Kobal in November, many individuals have asked for ways to honor Matt and his dedication to Vermilion students.  Last week Matt’s parents requested that the Vermilion Board of Education establish a scholarship fund to help hard working football players attend the college or university of their choice.  The scholarship fund was approved by the Vermilion Board of Education at their meeting on December 4, 2017.

The Coach Matt Kobal Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating senior who has been a member of the football team at Vermilion High School.  It is the family’s wish that the scholarship be awarded in the amount of $1000 annually.  The family stipulated that the recipient be a football player that VHS coaches believe is a good example for teammates, demonstrates dedication to excellence, is hard working, and represents his team with pride.  Selection of the scholarship recipient will be made by a committee consisting of varsity football coaches and the current Vermilion Schools Athletic Director.

Individuals or families who are interested in making a donation to this scholarship fund in Matt’s honor should send your check to Vermilion Local Schools, ATTN: Treasurer, 1250 Sanford Street, Vermilion, OH, 44089.   Please make checks payable to Vermilion Schools, with a notation that you are making a donation to the Coach Matt Kobal Scholarship fund.

The Board wishes to acknowledge the Kobal family for their generosity and dedication to keeping Matt’s memory alive by helping deserving students reach their goals in higher education.   We appreciate all they have done for Vermilion students.
