We try very hard to make people aware when there is an emergency in our community. The best way we can communicate is by text messaging. Our recent boil alert brought our attention to the fact that there are still some citizens that have not signed up for this service. Presently, there are 2257 citizens signed up for this service, with 297 people subscribing in the past 30 days. We would like to have more citizens avail themselves of this service. You don’t have to reside in Vermilion to sign up. You may wish to know about emergencies for a family member. I encourage everyone to sign up for this valuable service. This is a good way to stay informed about emergencies when they occur. We text messages where there are water main breaks, boil alerts for water, winter or flood emergencies as well as any other vital information for our community. Please encourage your friends and neighbors to sign up. All you have to do is:
Text to: 36000
You will then get a confirmation message and you will be signed up.
Lorain County Emergency Management has added an additional text and voice messaging system. We have partnered with Lorain County to be part of this emergency message system. It covers the entire City of Vermilion even if you reside in Erie County. You can sign up your landline and your cell phone line. Just visit the Lorain County Emergency Management website. You can also sign up under this link: https://entry.inspironlogistics.com/lor oh/wens.efm and it will bring you to the site.
By registering on this site, you will not receive unsolicited calls. Lorain County, City of Vermilion nor the system vendor will not sell the contract number database. Alerts sent from Lorain County will originate from 69310 for text messages and (440)000-0000 for voice notifications.
When you sign up for the Lorain County service, you will be able to sign up for alerts just in the City of Vermilion. You can also add other municipalities and townships in Lorain County. You can also choose what weather alerts you would like to receive.
You will now be aware of all the emergencies in the county. If you have friends or neighbors who might have difficulty signing up for this service, please offer to help them. If you have friends or family that do not have cell service, please let them know when you receive a text about an emergency. The more people that know about it will only help us get the word out when there is an emergency situation. If you have any problem signing up, please call our office at 440-204-2402 and we will help you.
Our Police Department and Lorain County Emergency Management also post on Facebook when there is an emergency. We also notify the local radio stations.
The more information we can get to you in a timely manner, the better is for you and for the entire community. So, please take the time to sign up for this valuable service and take the time to tell your family members and friends.
