The Vermilion Township Trustees met for a regular meeting on Wednesday, June21.
Road updates: During that meeting, road foreman Steve Young, reported that they were currently working on road mowing, durapatching, wedge coating, and that the LED lights were being installed in the work bay at the township garage. The new LED lighting in the work bay was approved at the previous meeting. There were four lights needed for a total cost of $1,920.
Money saved: Laurie Manning Weinberg, an Ohio Plan Representative from Hylant Administrative Services was at the meeting and discussed the proposal regarding property insurance for the township through the Ohio Plan. The township had no claims and will receive the maximum credit allowing the premium to go down from $18,409.00 to $17,809.00. The effective date of coverage will be from July 29, 2017 through July 29, 2018. Ms. Weinberg also discussed Lexipol, the risk management vendor for Public Safety Organizations (Fire and Police).
Fire department update: Chief Frank Triana reported that between June 1 and June 20, there were 13 EMS assists, one response for a down wire, three responses to motor vehicle crashes, five responses sto alarm activations, one vehicle fire, one tree fire, and three structure fires.
He also reported that the automatic aid agreement with Berlin Township Fire Department, which was approved at the previous meeting, was officially in place. Under this new agreement, if there is a confirmed structure fire along the border of the two townships, both departments will automatically respond. Triana explained that this will save time rather than arriving at a structure fire and then having to call out for help. If they do arrive at the fire and determine they do not need the extra assistance, they can call them off the run with the run number. This will also help with audits to get them a lower rating because instead of having 4,000 gallons heading to a structure fire, they can report they have 7,000 gallons combining both departments. The trustees voted to approve the agreement.
Approved expenditures: The trustees voted to approve an agreement from the Erie County Engineers Office to contract to bid out road maintenance and repairs for 2017 through the County Wide Road Program and to forward the certificate of availability of funds to the Fiscal Officer for certification that $167,300.00 has been encumbered.
They also voted to approve a payment of $150.00 for the Vermilion Township Fire Department’s Volunteer Fire Fighters’ Dependents Fund (Assessment Number ARINV-020372) pursuant to section 146.09 of the Ohio Revised Code to be taken from the Fire District Fund.
Finally, they voted to approve re-enrolling in the CareWorksComp Program for 2018 with a 40 percent group discount and a service fee of $1,505.00. The policy will be effective January 1, 2018.
