
The Brownhelm Historical Association (BHA) will also gather for the annual parade on Sunday, May 28, at 1:30 p.m. at South Claus and North Ridge Roads to march to Brownhelm Cemetery. The group invites anyone with an old tractor, vintage car or truck for the smallest parade in the area! Area Scouts, Little League, 4H, etc. are invited to join us for this special day to remember our veterans. Join the BHA members as they ride on the hay wagon for the short ride down North Ridge Road.
The Memorial Service will begin at 2 p.m. when the Amherst American Legion Post 118 conducts the ceremony as we pay tribute to all military service members. Please bring a lawn chair and umbrella, in case of rain.
At 3:15 p.m. we will honor a Revolutionary War soldier, Bildad Belden at Brown’s Lake Road Cemetery with the Vermilion Veterans Council.
Then at 4 p.m., the BHA will be at Rugby Cemetery with Tom Jenkins, leader of the ROTC group from Elyria to pay tribute to the veterans buried there. This will be the first time that the association will hold a service at this Brownhelm Township cemetery.

Memorial Day activities in Vermilion will start at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 29, with a Vermilion veterans dedication in Exchange Park near the corner of Main Street and Liberty Avenue. Then at 8:45 a.m. there will be a veterans dedication at Maple Grove Cemetery, located at 8303 Cemetery Road.
The annual Vermilion Memorial Day parade will start at 10:30 a.m. traveling down Liberty Avenue to Sandusky Street and then around to Victory Park. The parade will end in Victory Park with a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. The ceremony will include music from the Vermilion Sailors Marching Band and a guest speaker. Following the ceremony, there will be a luncheon held at the Vermilion AMVETS Post located at 1517 State Road.
